Swapping blue skies for beautiful tones of grey

Having worked in the  design and events industry in Sydney for over ten years my design background consists of hospitality interiors as well as event activations and exhibitions.  As I have worked on the planning and design of all types of events I have definitely seen my fair share of what happens behind the scenes.

As a designer in the events industry, if I have done my job correctly this means that myself and my team will be gone from the venue before the great unveiling.  There have been some close calls.  (At a gala dinner in the Blue Mountains the guests were arriving via gondola with full view of my team dazzling up around their dinner tables .)

Oddly enough, this means  I rarely get to experience the events I have been spending my weekdays and some weekends planning and designing.  As the events industry is quite fast paced as  is  I am sure that I am not the only event professional who  has not had the time to step back and admire the creativity of their event. You would never be able to feel the surprise and awe of an immaculately designed event without scrutinising on the details that went into its construction/ installation.

Perhaps seeing and experiencing these events as the spectator opens up insights of how some event design attribute works and some miss their mark?

In 2015, my husband and I decided to move from Sydney Australia to London for a change of scene. Swapping blue skies for grey has been a very fulfilling exchange.  In London there is so much culture, design, fashion and technology all within a few tube stops or an hour plan ride away .

So with this recent relocation, the design tourist in me has decided to blog my experiences of events, exhibitions, and trips to parts of Europe for a little cultural blast. I hope you guys enjoy what I have seen and experienced so you are also inspired to get out there and fulfil your own “wanderess”  spirit.

Begin the journey.
